Orchestras of Auschwitz 


Long-forgotten musical compositions and arrangements by holocaust prisoners have been rescued from obscurity. 80 years on from the liberation of Auschwitz, it’s time to bring them back to life.

​

The Constella Team are now dedicated to developing a full-length stage production to preserve the musical legacy and stories from Auschwitz, which is due to premier in 2025.

Hitler's Jazz Band
Featuring Leo Geyer 

Sky Arts Television Documentary 
Despite the ban on jazz throughout the Third Reich, the Nazis created Germany's premier swing band. This documentary charts the fascinating story of Karl Schweidler and his band.

Winners of the 2023 Kirckman Concert Society Artists and recipients of the prestigious Tunnell Trust Awards in 2021, the Elmore Quartet is a young ensemble founded in 2017 at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Here they will perform Leo's Unfurling, a piece commissioned by the quartet, alongside other works.

Leo Geyer has composed two pieces for Theater Aachen’s reimagining of Purcell’s The Indian Queen, both inspired by Latin American political songs and written for chorus and baroque orchestra.

Richard Bossons and Leo Geyer have reconstructed the 1929 film’s original music using a recently discovered 'musical conspectus.' To celebrate the film’s 95th anniversary, an authentic viewing experience has been created.

Elixir of Love    
Collaboration with Baseless Fabric Theatre  

Leo Geyer is working with Baseless Fabric Theatre and librettist Joanne Turner to create a sparkling new adaption of Donizetti’s sparkling comedy L’elisir d’amore (The Elixir of Love), scored for just three instruments.

Constella Music proudly presents a concert celebrating the Chinese Clocks Exhibition. This includes an especially commissioned piece of music by Leo Geyer using the melodies from the musical clocks. The rest of the programme includes a thrilling and diverse collection of clock-inspired music performed by strings and guzheng (Chinese zither).

A special concert where we reflect on the musicians of Auschwitz-Birkenau. The pieces are introduced in English by Leo Geyer, artistic director at Constella Music. He has recovered these pieces from the archives of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum and will perform them.
