Trustee - Two positions available 

 

As a trustee, you will help shape the future of a company at the cutting edge of cross-disciplinary performance in the UK. You’ll be part of a small, dynamic organisation where your voice truly matters.


You’ll join Constella at an exciting time as we scale up our ambitions, build on strong critical acclaim, and deepen the social impact of our projects. Our board members are collaborators—supporting Constella’s team with insight, guidance, and networks that enhance our work.


Who we are looking for
We are particularly seeking two new trustees with the following experience:


1. Performing Arts Management (Senior Level)
You may be a current or former artistic director, executive producer, CEO, or senior leader
in an arts organisation, festival, or venue. We value experience in:

​

  • Programming and commissioning

  • National or international touring

  • Production and project development

  • Audience engagement and education

  • Leadership in cross-sector artistic collaboration


2. Funding Development & Strategic Fundraising
We are also looking for a trustee with extensive experience in income generation, particularly within the arts or charity sector. Ideal experience includes:

  • Major donor cultivation and stewardship

  • Fundraising campaigns or capital appeals

  • Trusts, foundations, and grant-writing

  • Corporate sponsorships and partnerships

  • Legacy and digital fundraising strategies

​

All trustees should also demonstrate:

  • Commitment to the arts and social change

  • Strategic thinking and sound judgment

  • Integrity, curiosity, and a collaborative approach

  • Willingness to act as an ambassador for Constella

 

​Trustees are responsible for:

  • Shaping and approving strategic plans

  • Ensuring strong financial oversight and risk management

  • Supporting fundraising and income generation strategy

  • Championing Constella’s mission and networks

  • Upholding legal, regulatory, and safeguarding duties in line with Charity Commission guidanc

 

We also welcome applications from those with knowledge in:

  • Legal or governance frameworks in the arts or charity sector

  • Finance and audit

  • Digital innovation in the arts

  • Community engagement and inclusion

Your Commitment
The expected time commitment is flexible and designed to accommodate professionals:

​

 

  • Five online board meetings per year (approx. 2 hours each), which require reviewing the meeting papers in advance.

  • One in-person strategy meeting annually (half-day, usually in London)

  • Ongoing ad hoc engagement, where the team may consult trustees for advice in their area of expertise (e.g. fundraising, governance, programming)

We value your input and involve trustees in areas where they can offer the most meaningful
insight and support.


Trustees serve on a voluntary basis but may claim reasonable expenses.

About Constella

 

Our vision is for classical music and ballet to be appealing, relevant, and accessible to 21st-century audiences through daring, bold, and creative interdisciplinary works.

 

Founded in 2011, Constella Music is the creative powerhouse behind the award-winning composer and conductor Leo Geyer. Constella publishes and performs Geyer's works, which span opera, dance, film, and concert music, and serves as a production company for his growing portfolio in broadcast presenting.

 

Constella is currently undertaking a major project to restore and perform long-forgotten music written in Auschwitz. This includes the Sky Arts documentary film, The Lost Music of Auschwitz, which has been hailed by the press, such as the Financial Times, describing it as "profoundly moving".

 

We have also given performances of music from Auschwitz in London, Paris, and Amsterdam, and released a recording on YouTube, which garnered worldwide news coverage.

 

We are now looking for a stage manager to assist us leading rehearsals, technical periods and performances, (ideally with instrumentalists, singers, dancers and in-house technical teams).

 

The performances will take place from the 3rd to the 7th of June at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London.

 

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

 

  • Proven experience as Stage Manager, leading rehearsals, technical periods and performances, (ideally with instrumentalists, singers, dancers and in-house technical teams).

  • The ability to read musical scores.

  • Experience of writing risk assessments, rehearsal notes and show reports.

  • Experience of calling shows.

  • A practical individual, able to demonstrate excellent focus and organisational skills.

  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Google Drive.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage creative individuals and lead and organise teams up to 25 people proactively and calmly.

  • Solution focussed, with the ability to work under pressure.

  • An excellent communicator and listener.

  • Understanding and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

 

Key Accountabilities

​

  • In collaboration with the Freelance Producer, schedule the technical period onwards.

  • Lead stage rehearsals, technical periods and performances, ensuring they run smoothly and on schedule to high artistic and technical standards.

  • Write and share detailed rehearsal notes and show reports for all stage rehearsals and performances.

  • Establish any set, costume or prop requirements for rehearsals/performances ahead of time.

  • With the Freelance Producer, provide pastoral care for the company.

  • Running the stage during stage rehearsals and performances.

  • Calling the shows and stage rehearsals, managing any show stops or emergency situations.

  • Preparation of all risk assessments required for Bloomsbury Theatre.

  • Ensure Health & Safety protocols are followed by the company, with an overall view of H&S procedures and reporting systems.

  • General props and set maintenance that may be required.

  • Represent the company with discretion and courtesy, safeguarding all confidential information.

Remuneration

​

  • Inclusive fee of £1,133 for a total of 9 x 8 hour days of work.

We are now looking for a freelance producer to assist us with successfully bringing our opera-ballet The Lost Music of Auschwitz to the stage.

 

The performances will take place from the 3rd to the 7th of June at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

Production Management

​

  • Project management support for the creative and management team

  • Organise and minute production meetings and follow up on agreed actions

  • Organise rehearsal venues

  • Organise dance auditions

  • Organise and manage artist schedules and rehearsals

  • Lead on health and safety requirements

  • Liaise with the performance venue

  • Review invoices received against contracts and agreements

  • Maintain contact sheets and distribution lists for productions

  • Prep artist and creatives, cast sheets/ information packs for the performances

  • Problem solving during rehearsals and performances

  • Help organise outreach activities related to the production

  • Post-production wrap-up activities

  • Any other production-related tasks that might be required

 

Social Media Management

​

  • Propose and write engaging content

  • Prep a social media calendar for the production

  • Posting social media updates on our various channels incl. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram

  • Media relations management admin

 

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

 

Performing Arts

​

  • Passionate about the performing arts, including music, opera, and ballet

 

Relevant Production Management experience

​

  • Experience as a producer/ production manager in theatrical productions

 

People Skills

​

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Flexible, tactful, responsive, and calm approach

  • Understands the  needs of artists and customers and can instill confidence

 

Other Skills

​

  • Social Media: experienced in producing engaging material for different social media channels

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • Accuracy and attention to detail

  • Confident working independently, happy to take initiative, and excellent time management

  • Flexibility to work varied hours, depending on demand

  • Proficient Microsoft Office User, good knowledge of Word & Excel

  • Familiar with Google Drive

  • Working from home

  • In person at various London locations for meetings, rehearsals, and performances

Remuneration

​

  • Day rate £150, negotiable depending on skills and experience

Dancers (applications now closed)

 

Constella Music is looking for female and male dancers with a strong classical and contemporary technique and min 3 years professional experience to work with renowned choreographer Claudia Schreier on its ‘The Lost Music of Auschwitz’ production.

 

Must be available from the 12th May – 7th June for rehearsals and performances at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London.

Auditions will be by invitation only on the 15th April at a London location - ballet flats, form-fitting attire, no pointe work.
