Programme Note
Sideshows Suite is a reimagining of various acts from Geyer’s opera-ballet Sideshows with text by the poet Martin Kratz. Sideshows takes the format of an unhinged circus show with the Ringmaster conductor and his ensemble of clowns presenting weird and wonderful acts which are sung and danced and spiral out of control to hilarious effect. Sideshows has been awarded The Philip Bates Prize and has been performed over 30 times across the UK and US including two broadcasts live on BBC Radio 3. In this reimagining, the quintet takes a journey through the fringes of the circus, encountering The Clowns, The Palm Reader, The Dancing Bear, The Bearded Lady and finally end up caught in the Merry-Go-Round.
