London Portraits is an opera-ballet that tells of two couples seeking romance in a city which does not always seem to cooperate. One couple appears more open to falling in love, whereas the other is more uncertain. The couples’ strengths are tested across four scenes: the sleepless night, the busy commute, the sunset and the London underground. During the piece, the uncertain couple gradually find their confidence and seal their love in a kiss, whilst the other couple find themselves drifting further apart and become separated.

The project is generously supported by St. Catherine’s College, Oxford and the University of Oxford.
