Lee Bamford
Producer
After graduating from the University of Winchester and London Contemporary Dance School Lee performed professionally for 11 years, working in a variety of dance and musical theatre companies across Europe. Most notably, within the UK he performed with the Royal Opera, Liam Steel/Rob Tannion, Fleur Darkin, Jacky Lansley, and Rufus Norris and Javier de Frutos’ West End, Olivier-Award winning production of Cabaret.
In 2006 Lee performed in Luca Silvestrini’s trio, B for Body in The Place Prize Final, winning numerous audience prizes. During the 2004-2005 season, he was a founder member of Verena Weiss’ tanztheater company at Luzerner Theater (Switzerland) and returned to mainland Europe in 2009, where Lee spent 5 years consecutive years as a soloist dancer in Mei Hong Lin’s tanztheater company at Staatstheater Darmstadt (Germany), when the company was twice-nominated for the Deutsche Theaterpreis DER FAUST for its original works. It was here that Lee was also honoured to gain leading roles in the work of leading Tanztheater choreographers Johann Kresnik and Jochen Ulrich. Lee was a writer/critic for Dance Europe magazine (2011 – 2014) whilst performing in Germany.
On retiring from performance, Lee returned to the UK to work across the internal touring of Hofesh Shechter Company for 3 years as their Administration and HR Manager, followed by 4 years as General Manager of Transitions Dance Company at Trinity Laban where he produced 4 European tours of original works. In 2016 Lee produced sweetshop Revolution’s site-specific work Tree (2016 National Dance Award nominee - Best Independent Company). Most recently, Lee spent 3 ½ years managing c.600 artist contracts across 20 productions per year as the Chorus Manager for Royal Ballet & Opera and toured 280 people for 3 ½ weeks on a multiple site/production tour to Japan (2024) with the Royal Opera.
Lee is a Clore Leader (Alum 2017), and an alum of Stage One New Producers’ Course (2017).
