‘Shattered Love’ is a new work created from Charlotte Brontë’s love letters to her teacher Constantin Heger, showcasing her dramatic decline from passionate love to desolate loneliness. Her only means of escape was to write, leading to the conception of one of the most renowned English novels – Jane Eyre.
The music comprises works by renowned English composer Arthur Butterworth, whose music is infrequently performed.
‘Glasstown’ was inspired by the Bronte’s collective fantasy world, written by poet Martin Kratz, composer Leo Geyer, director Ella Marchment and choreographer Jaered Glavin, and developed with support from Stephen Barlow, Stephen Unwin, Kasper Holten, David Parry and Robert Saxton as part of Helios Collective’s Formations.
